Latin America and the Caribbean
Freshfields in Latin America and the Caribbean
Our Latin America-focused teams not only are skilled in their areas of legal expertise but also have spent years building up a network of contacts and local knowledge that is invaluable in advising clients.
We leverage our exceptional worldwide corporate and finance experience to support clients in transactional activity in or related to Latin America.
Our strength across Latin America has led to us advising on recent 'mega-deals' that have had extensive, complex and business-critical Latin American aspects, including AB InBev's acquisition of SABMiller, BG Group's merger with Royal Dutch Shell, and Novartis' sale of its veterinary products assets in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia to Eli Lilly. We have also been active in many first-of-their-kind projects across the region in a variety of key sectors.
Our Latin American arbitration group is a first port of call for high-stakes, cutting-edge investment and commercial arbitrations. Our team is recognised for its continued major victories and successful settlements for clients.
Our presence in the region is further bolstered by our global investigations team, which is anchored by four former US Department of Justice prosecutors and has significant experience in advising and defending clients' interests in relation to alleged corporate misconduct in a number of Latin American countries.
We are able to fully engage in all aspects of our Latin American projects and cases, as members of our teams are fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, and in many instances legally trained in the region.
